The German Federal President will host a high-ranking event in June to present the most competitive and environmentally friendly innovations in Germany. CO2 Technology in different applications features among the projects selected for the event.

The German Week of the Environment, to be held from 5-6 June, will feature Germany's 180 most competitive environmental projects, selected out of 400 applications. For the third time the German Federal President Köhler and the German Federal Environmental Foundation (DBU) will host the prestigious event at the President’s Office expected to attract more than 10,000 guests, including politicians, sciencists, business and civil society. This year's event will more than ever reflect the importance of solutions for global environmental concerns, with focal points being innovative technologies, climate protection, energy and mobility.

--image1--CO2 Technology among the most innovative projects For the first time an independent expert jury selected the most innovative projects to be presented at the two-day event, taking into account not only the project's ecological sustainability but also the technical and economic potential for realisation. Among the selected innovations feature two projects based on CO2 Technology:

  • Smart heating system combining CO2 and solar energy: The Institute for Thermodynamics / TU Braunschweig will present an innovative heating system for highly efficient energy saving houses. The combination with a solar storage unit considerably reduces the primary energy use.
  • Development of a CO2-transport refrigeration unit: Based on its positive experience with CO2-based bus air conditioning, Konvekta AG developed a prototype for the transportation of fresh or frozen food that will run with a compressor designed by ixetic. The three-year practical test has proved that CO2 will lead to 50% less greenhouse gas emissions compared to conventional systems while running reliably more than 5,000 operating hours.
Specialized forum to discuss R744 MAC At the event more than 60 top-level forums and discussion panels will be held, gathering renowned experts in the field of environmental technology, research and communication. One forum will highlight the issue of climate protection in the transport sector with climate friendly Mobile Air Conditioning based on the natural refrigerant CO2 (R744) being the subject of a shared presentation by the Deutsche Umwelthilfe (DUH) and OBRIST Engineering. Follow-Up R744.com will keep you informed on the outcomes of this key event.
