On 17 November, Baden-Württemberg Environment Minister Franz Untersteller granted this year’s Environment Awards to companies in Baden-Württemberg. In the category of manufacturers, Huber Kältemaschinenbau AG got the award for driving forward the development of climate-friendly refrigeration and air-conditioning equipment.
The company has been a pioneer in developing and producing innovative cooling technologies based on natural refrigerants, mainly CO2, propane and isobutane. Huber began to phase out HCFCs at an early stage, and has long supported wider use of natural refrigerants.
Untersteller praised the company’s focus on sustainability. “We reward organisations that bank on industrial environment protection and sustainable business operations in a courageous and exemplary way. It is remarkable how some organisations implement sustainable practices to operational processes,” he said.
“Green ideas and successful business are no opposites, but complement each other."
- Franz Untersteller, Environment Minister, Baden-Württemberg
Sustainability is a central topic at Huber Kältemaschinenbau AG. The company’s implemented environmental practices include, amongst others, 100% green electricity and the installation of its own photovoltaic and heat recovery systems. It offers employees a bicycle leasing service and its printed materials are climate-neutral.
According to Untersteller, “green ideas and successful business are no opposites, but complement each other. More and more organisations recognise the opportunity for sustainable business practices”.
